Jana Zátková (1859-1933). Forgotten personality in the History of South Bohemia?
BÍLKOVÁ, Klára
The thesis aims to provide a more comprehensive survey of life and public activities of Jana Zátková, a notable native of České Budějovice. She made her mark on the history of the town not only as a wife of August Zátka, the leader of the České Budějovice Czechs, but also through her activities for the Czech youth and mainly through building the first Czech girls´ lyceum, the very first one in Bohemia. The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is focused on the history of both native families of Jana Zátková (i.e. the Strandl and Klavík families). The second chapter describes her family background, childhood and upbringing till the marriage with August Zátka. The marriage itself is described in the third chapter which also presents August Zátka´s family background and public activities as well as the life stories of their three children. The last but one chapter deals with public activities of Jana Zátková in a ladies´ society called Ludmila. The last fifth chapter deals with the final years of her life.
F. A. Šubert 1849 - 1915
Drexler, Otto ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Beneš, Zdeněk (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the biography of one important personality at the end of the 19th century - František Adolf Šubert, who was in the post of the Director of National Theatre in Prague in years 1883-1900. The main focus of the thesis is Šubert's public life and his career, as well as on his position within Czech cultural society, in the wider context of the era of that time changing Czech society and theatrical culture perception. It deals with the question, why F. A. Šubert was a subject of criticism from the journalists already during his active career as a director, and why he has never been recognized as one of the let's say "cultural heroes" of that epoch. The base of the work lies in the spring of the year 1900 - which was the year of Šubert's abdication (together with the whole theatre management). The work deals also with Šubert's personal life, which influenced his ideas and persuasion, too. This thesis is based on the then print, pieces of specialized and memoir literature, partly also archival materials (the access to the last mentioned was due to several factors rather limited). Heřmánková, Adéla ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Hlavačka, Milan (referee)
The thesis intends to show, using the specific example of Jan and Anna Podlipný, a typical Prague family active in public life on the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Both the public activities and the private lives of the married couple are described. The thesis introduces the family of both Podlipnýs, particular focus being on the free time activities of the family members; home theatre is of special importance in this context. The core of the thesis is a discussion of the public activities of Jan and Anna Podlipný. Public life of Jan Podlipný is divided in his work for the Prague administration and in various interest groups. Emphasis is placed on years 1897-1900 when he was the mayor of Prague; the thesis also partially discusses his work as a lawyer and a member of the Young Czech Party. Podlipný is also introduced as a member of the Sokol union, the first head of the Czech Sokol Community and a member of the Society for the Construction of a Monument of Master Jan Hus. Podlipný's efforts in the cooperation between Sokol and the Union of French Gymnasts are also mentioned, and briefly also the other organisations he was active in. Anna Podlipná is introduced primarily as a wife and a mother. Emphasis is placed on her activities in the Domácnosť (Household) and České srdce (Czech Heart)...
